Abbie's Part 2

Part II
  1. Describe some of the risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries. (a change in the government)  Use “Iran the Next Iraq”, “Argo” and the Upfront Article, “What’s the Deal with Iran” to help  defend your answer.

There are many risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries. One of the risks are that if the United States takes their control of the other countries and their governments too far they could get those other countries mad and end up creating themselves wars against these countries and their governments. In the movie “Argo,” the Americans who were in Iran were attacked and killed because they protected and hid the Shah from the Iranians. The Americans started giving the Shah power by lending Iran some of their weapons. After the United States gave the Shah their power, the Shah took advantage of the Iranians and took all their money. This caused the Iranians to want to hang the Shah. The Americans protected the Shah from the Iranians and the Iranians got mad at Americans. After this, Iran started war with America and broke into their Embassy. This proves that they tried to help Iran's government, but it created war. Although there are risks, there are also benefits. A benefit of the United States changing other countries’ governments is that if they help another country's economy they could get the same help back in return. This shows that there are both risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries.

  1. (Use #4 to help you answer this question) Should the United States get involved in other countries’ policies? Use all the articles you have and additional research to answer this question.

I do not think the United States should get involved in other countries’ policies because in the movie “Argo” it shows that the Americans helped Iran and even gave them some of their weapons to help them and gave the Shah power. The Iranians ended up burning 52 American Flags and taking hostage of people in the Embassy.

Part 2 GERBER

I don't think the U.S  should get involved in other policies because the U.S might not agree on what the other countries do.  Also they might not agree with the government and what type of government it is which could cause a revolution. When we decided Iran's leader he made everyone starve and also kept all the money for himself and that started a huge revolution and made Iran hate the U.S. I think the U.S should stay out of other countries policies.

Question 2 Albert

  1. I don’t think they should because it could lead to something dangerous. Also it may cost civilians lives and that we should leave it alone. If we would of left Iran alone maybe they would not taken over the embassy and would not of kept the hostages for 444 days.

Jared's Question

2. (Use #4 to help you answer this question) Should the United States get involved in other countries’ policies? Use all the articles you have and additional research to answer this question.

No, because then it could lead to what happened in Iran where we saved their leader and they kidnaped over 50 american hostages and didn’t let them out for 444 days more than a year. this could happen again but a lot worse and maybe even kill the hostages and not let them go. Only 7 people came out alive. Would America be able to save those again?

Adam's Question part 2

I don’t think the US should be involved with other countries policies. They should be only involved in their own policies because if they get involved with another country's policies the country they got involved with could get mad and it could lead to bad relationships. For example the US protected the Shah even though he made a lot of people poor and this lead to riots and then lead to the Iranians to take over the US embassy.

Brent's Questions for Part 2

  1. Describe some of the risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries. Use “Iran the Next Iraq”, “Argo” and the Upfront Article, “What’s the Deal with Iran” to help  defend your answer.

Some benefits are…….
  1. One they may just may change. In the Iran the next Iraq, Iran changed but then rioted because the Shah left them in poverty. If the U.S. does change the regime, the next country may be different from Iran and not rebel
  2. We can become allies. In the Iran the next Iraq, Iran became allies with us for a while until of course the Iranian people rioted. If we do change another country, we may become allies with them.
Some Risks are…..
  1. If we Americans are in this new country trying to change their government, the people may kill us like maybe a terrorist group may be there or something else.
  2. If we do change their government, but the people don’t like it and throw out there old government. The people may build nuclear weapons secretly to launch at us. In Iran the next Iraq, that’s what the people in America think Iran is doing, putting a big bull's eye on America to launch at.

  1. (Use #4 to help you answer this question) Should the United States get involved in other countries’ policies? Use all the articles you have and additional research to answer this question.

I do not think that we America should get involved in other countries policies because…………..

  1. We may interfere with any of their customs and the people will get mad at us and become enemies. Let’s just say that an American walks into a jewish home somewhere in another country and brings cheeseburgers for everyone. This would get this family mad and then they tell everyone what happened and there enemies.
  2. Also what if that country like Iran is already mad at us. They might disguise people as the people in that country so we might get hurt.
  3. Let’s just say that another accident occurs where the American embassy is destroyed and only 7 people come out alive. Would America be able to save them again?

    1. Describe some of the risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries. Use “Iran the Next Iraq”, “Argo” and the Upfront Article, “What’s the Deal with Iran” to help  defend your answer.
There are a lot of risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries. One risk is that according to “Iran the next Iraq” there is a project of nuclear missiles going on in Iran and if we engineer in regime change they could use their missiles against us. Another risk was also stated in “Iran the next Iraq” is that since we get most of our oil from Iran if we engineer in regime change they could cut off trade with us. One benefit is in  “Iran the next Iraq” where it says that when America gave Iran money to the shau they got oil and other goods in return.

    1. (Use #4 to help you answer this question) Should the United States get involved in other countries’ policies? Use all the articles you have and additional research to answer this question.

No I don’t think the United States should get involved in other countries policies. If we got involved in other countries policies we could get our government overthrown. Take “Argo”, we involved in Iran's government and they took and held 52 hostages for 444 days and we don’t want that to happen again.

Talia Cohen Part 2

  1. Describe some of the risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries. (change in the government) Use evidence.
There are both risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries. A risk would be other countries getting angry with us. In the movie "Agro" it should that because the Americans protected the Shah, the iranians got mad and came after us. A benefit for us become a better government and have more supplies to make us have good economy. In the article Iran the Next Iraq” it states that the US helped Iran to become a better country and they gave us back oil. Overall there are risks and benefits of the US engineering a regime change in other countries.

  1. (Use #4 to help) Should the United States get involved in other countries’ policies? Use evidence.

No, the United States shouldn’t get involved in other countries policies because of the risks that can happen. For example we stood in the way of Iran and they all came and charged to the U.S embassy and tried to attack the embassy. They ended up taking 52 American hostages. This is why the U.S shouldn’t get involved in other countries policies so nothing like this can happen.

Answers to questions 1 & 2

Answer to 1st question: The benefits of The United States interfering with other people’s government is that it can reduce communism and get more resources. According to the documentary Iran the Next Iraq the U.S helped Iran and we got some oil from them which we need. On the other hand some risks from us helping other countries is it can cause conflict. In the movie Argo they got angry at us interfering with their government by protecting their Shah and in result of that they stormed the U.S embassy in Iran and took hostages.

Answer to 2nd question: I believe that we should not interfere with countries because it can cause conflict. For example in the movie Iran the Next Iran and Argo we interfered with Iran to control communism and it started a rebellion. The rebellion caused 52 Americans to be held hostage.

  1. Describe some of the risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries. Use “Iran the Next Iraq”, “Argo” and the Upfront Article, “What’s the Deal with Iran” to help  defend your answer.

The United States has some risks and benefits of engineering a regime change in other countries such as iran. First, in the movie “Argo” when they US takes the Shah away Iran, they are outraged because they want to hang him for his sin. So, Iran decided to attack the US embassy in Tehran, and took many US people in as hostages. These people were tortured for 444 days until they got out. This is a big risk because these are people who work for the Us and they are put at the risk of death. However, there is can also be a benefit. In the documentary “ Iran, the new Iraq” it says before the hostage crisis the US made Iran a stronger army and gave them weapons. In return, Iran gave US some oil. As you can see there is a big benefit as well as a big risk to engineer a regime change in another.

I do not think the US should get involved in other countries’ policies unless they want help. If they do get involved it could go the wrong way. This could start wars and riots . The country could also develop a hate for us just like Iran did at the beginning of Argo.

Part II

  1. Describe some of the risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries. Use “Iran the Next Iraq”, “Argo” and the Upfront Article, “What’s the Deal with Iran” to help  defend your answer.

Kortney: A benefit of the U.S interfering with other countries is that we get supplies that that country has. In “Iran the Next Iraq” it states in 1908, oil was discovered in Iran…….U.S needing this product from the Middle East.” Showing that America needed oil from Iran and the U.S was trying to help out the country to get oil. A risk of the U.S interfering with other countries is that it could start conflict’s. In the movie ‘Argo’ the U.S helped the Shah by letting him get medical attention in the U.S causing Iranians to rebell and storm into the U.S embassy and took american hostages

  1. (Use #4 to help you answer this question) Should the United States get involved in other countries’ policies? Use all the articles you have and additional research to answer this question.

Kortney: I think that we should not get involved in other countries. In the movie “Argo” the U.S was protecting the Shah and let him enter the U.S. In result of the U.S protecting the Shah  U.S Iranians took American hostages from the U.S Embassy. Showing that when we interfered with Iran they rebelled and took hostages protesting give the Shah back to Iran.

Part II
  1. Describe some of the risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries. Use “Iran the Next Iraq”, “Argo” and the Upfront Article, “What’s the Deal with Iran” to help  defend your answer.
A benefit of the United States engineering a regime change is other countries is we could help make that country's government stronger than it would be. Also if we help other countries than we could get some other resources in return. For instance according to "Iran the Next Iraq", it states that the US helped Iran and they gave us some oil in return. A risk would be the country would get angry with us and started a conflict because of it. According to “Argo” because the United States protected the Shah, the Iranians stormed the Embassy.

  1. (Use #4 to help you answer this question) Should the United States get involved in other countries’ policies? Use all the articles you have and additional research to answer this question.

I think the United States shouldn't get involved in other countries’ policies because their are many risk that could be an outcome because of it. For example a country could overthrow our government. Take Iran for example, when we interfered with Iran they stormed the U.S Embassy and took 52 American hostages.

  1. Describe some of the risks and benefits of the United States engineering a regime change in other countries. Use “Iran the Next Iraq”, “Argo” and the Upfront Article, “What’s the Deal with Iran” to help  defend your answer.
There are both risks and benefits of the US engineering a regime change in other countries. One benefit is that once we help someone’s economy then they may help us back and we can become allies. For example, according to “Iran the Next Iraq”, once we helped Iran by giving them a good army and weapons, they gave us oil. However, there are also risks in engineering a regime change in other countries. One risk is that if we get too involved in a country then the country may get mad at us and will become enemies and loose soldiers in war. When we tried to help Iran, we gave their Shah too much power and protected him. He left Iran in poverty, people starving on the streets. America supported the Shah, and even hid him when the the Iranians wanted to hang him, so Iran became enemies with America. President George W. Bush even called Iran the “Axis of Evil” and Ayatollah Khomeini called America the “Great Satan”. As you can see, there are benefits, but at the same time risks of engineering a regime change in other countries.

No, unless the country needs America’s help and asks for it. Otherwise our relationship will most likely just fall apart and result in chaos and angry people who rebel. For instance, look what happened when we got involved with Iran and gave Iran’s Shah power-they burned American flags and even held 52 Americans hostage and attacked our embassy!
