Life In Another Country

Life in Another Country
By: Megan Segall

My country is India, which is located in Asia. Something that I found interesting was the different laws India has compared to America. One of the major laws in India is that drugs are illegal. If someone has drugs the punishment will be based off of the amount they have. If someone has a large amount and is intending to do something with it like sell, than they will automatically be sent to jail. I don't like this law because I feel that if someone has the drug they must know that it is illegal so I think they should still go to jail. The Holi Festival is a big part of Indian religion and it was really interesting to learn about. The Holi Festival is celebrated every year to celebrate the arrival of spring. It is known to be the oldest and most vibrant festival in India. One of India's many traditions at the festival is that people will throw colored powder at each other along with colored water. I think it is really cool that there is a festival that celebrates the arrival of spring and how colorful and bright it is. We don't have many vibrant festivals in America so I wish we had something like that where people would be dressed up in colorful clothes. It was really cool learning about how India got their independence. A man named Gandhi was the leader of 3 movements. They eventually wore down the British government which lead to them getting there independence. I thought it was interesting learning about India's independence because I have never heard of Gandhi and how he helped. Many people in India now celebrate Independence day to give thanks to Gandhi and the people who helped.

People in india celebrate this festival to signify the victory of good over evil, and the arrival of spring. People celebrated will colors and enthusiastic and joyful feelings. Many people throw colored powder at each other along with colored water too. Holi festival is one of the major festival of India and is the most vibrant one too.: History: Independence Day: Independence day is a major holiday that is celebrated in India. Above is a picture of Gandhi saying a quote. With the leadership of Gandhi he launched a countrywide interdependence movement. He took control of the Indian nationalist movement, and led three great popular movements that eventually wore down the British government. Today people in India celebrate Independence day to pay respects to the ones who helped get their freedom in the past.:

Laws
Government: Laws: One of the major laws In india is that you are not allowed to have illegal drugs. If you have illegal drugs, the punishment depends on the quantity of drugs that person has. If you have a large amount or you are intending to sell the drug then you are automatically sent to jail. However if you have a little amount than the punishment will fair.:

  2. Megan-I'm so glad you highlighted Gandhi and I look forward to you explaining what a role he plays in the independence and culture of India. I think he is one of the most amazing figures in history and feel that his influence is one we can all learn from. I can't wait to hear all about him and the rest of the cultures you've researched through India.

  9. You did amazing Megan!!! You said that one law is that can’t handle illegal drugs, and in Ethiopia, you also can't handle drugs. In addition, Gandhi helped India get independence with 3 movements. Ethiopia got their independence in 1941 from Italy. Overall, I thought you did great!

  10. Megan you did a wonderful job presenting. Our traditions are very different especially the big festival where you throw the powder colors. People in Madagascar probably wish they could afford that. Our laws are pretty similar. But are punishments are more strict than yours. We did not really have a leader like you guys did. Well I enjoyed your presentation I hope you enjoyed mine.
